The xylophone is a member of the percussion family of instruments. The name comes from two Greek words: xylon, meaning 'wood' and phone, meaning 'voice’.

Xylophone bars are created with different lengths, which produce different sounds. Shorter xylophone bars produce high notes and the longer bars produce lower notes.
